This phase was also done with a good response rate, so that among those invited to participate in the study, 4394 people (85% of the cohort population) participated in 3rd phase of study. The main reasons for not participating in this phase of study were death (5%) and migration (4%).

At this phase, comprehensive ophthalmological and optometric examinations were performed with state-of-the-art equipments. A summary of the results of these examinations in writing and details of the results were provided to the participants through the study web site (shecs.info) as well as the dedicated mobile application of this study.

Using the data from three phases of this study and the 10-year follow-up of participants will provide credible evidence in the prevention and treatment of eye diseases and visual impairments. All interested researchers can use this data (anonymously) by completing the participation form (available here). If needed, a sample of the database can be provided after completing the relevant forms.
