As an international student at Shahroud University of Medical Sciences (SHMU), it is important to plan ahead for your tuition and living expenses throughout your study period. The cost of living in Shahroud is relatively affordable compared to larger metropolitan cities in Iran. Please note that withdrawing from studies at any point during the academic year will result in the loss of the entire annual tuition fee, as well as relevant penalties (including accommodation, utilities, internet, health insurance, and registration fees) according to university regulations. Below is a list of general expenses for international students admitted to SHMU. All listed amounts apply exclusively for the academic year 2025–2026, and must be paid in full at the beginning of each academic year.

Scholarships and Tuition Discounts

Scholarships
SHMU offers a range of scholarships to support talented and hardworking international students. All international students are eligible to apply for these scholarships. Scholarship decisions are based on academic performance, motivation, and merit demonstrated during the application and interview process.

Tuition Discounts**
In addition, SHMU provides tuition discounts for students who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • High high school GPA

  • Exceptional talent or merit recognition

  • Group admission programs

  • Or, based on the assessment of the Admission Committee, financial need that qualifies the student for support

The tuition discount may be applied up to 40% of the first-year tuition fee.

Tuition and Fees Refund Policy
Students who decide to permanently withdraw from their studies during the academic year are liable to pay all fees, including tuition, accommodation, insurance, and other service costs.

Furthermore, any changes to your enrolled program may directly affect your visa status.

Such students are required to leave the country after completing the check-out process at the Office of International Affairs, Shahroud University of Medical Sciences.
