The slogan for World AIDS Day 1403
Ensuring the Right to Health by Choosing the Right Path."
Dr. Mohammad Hassan Emamian stated: "Each year, December 1st, corresponding to the 10th of Azar in the Iranian calendar, is designated as World AIDS Day. On this day, communities come together to commit to participating in the effort to control the disease."
Dr. Emamian, Acting President of Shahroud University of Medical Sciences, stated in an interview with the university's public relations office: "HIV is a controllable infectious disease. If diagnosed in time and managed with proper care and treatment, not only can the affected individual live a normal lifespan, but with appropriate treatment, the ability to transmit the disease to others can also be reduced to zero."
Dr. Emamian further stated: "Unfortunately, a high percentage of individuals with HIV remain undiagnosed and unaware of their condition. One of the main reasons for this is fear, stigma, and discrimination associated with the disease, which prevent patients from seeking diagnosis, care, and treatment."
An epidemiologist and faculty member of Shahroud University of Medical Sciences stated: "The HIV virus can be transmitted through blood transfusion and blood products, unprotected sexual contact, and from an infected mother to her child. However, it cannot be transmitted through social interactions or everyday contact with infected individuals, such as traveling together, being classmates, sitting next to each other, using public transportation like buses and taxis, or using public telephones. It also cannot be spread through eating, drinking, or sharing utensils such as spoons, forks, glasses, or tableware, nor through tears, saliva, air (sneezing and coughing), or insect bites."
He stated, "The only way to diagnose HIV is through a blood test. This test is conducted completely confidentially and free of charge at behavioral disease counseling centers, harm reduction service centers, comprehensive health service centers, and health posts by trained counselors
Dr. Emamian stated: "A very important point to mention is that if pregnant mothers infected with HIV are identified and receive appropriate and timely care and treatment, they can give birth to healthy children. Treatment has been recognized as the primary method for preventing the transmission of HIV."
The Acting President of the University stated: "To achieve effective treatment, individuals with HIV must be identified, have access to healthcare services, and continue treatment for the rest of their lives. Effective treatment can reduce the virus count in their blood to such a low level that it not only ensures their own health but also eliminates the risk of transmitting the disease."
He continued: "Fortunately, despite all the restrictions and sanctions, medications are made available through significant efforts. They are provided free of charge and confidentially at behavioral disease counseling centers, along with other valuable services, to individuals living with HIV and those engaged in high-risk behaviors."
Dr. Emamian concluded by informing all dear citizens: "The behavioral disease counseling centers in Shahroud are available 24/7 to provide services related to education, diagnosis, care, treatment, and more. The address of this center is as follows: Shahroud, Ferdowsi Street – Health Center (Azima), Shahroud County – Ground floor – Room 231 – Contact number: 32220061."
