Shahroud University of Medical Sciences Ranks Among Top Universities in National Evaluation of Research and Technology Activities in Iran

Dr. Shahin Akhoundzadeh, Deputy for Research and Technology at the Ministry of Health, emphasized the significance of this evaluation, stating:
"The assessment of research and technology activities of medical universities is one of the most important tools for scientific policymaking in the health sector. It not only measures the current status but also charts the future direction of the research and technology system."
He added that enhancing Iran's scientific standing regionally and globally requires focusing on high-quality publications and citations, expanding international collaborations, commercializing research outcomes, and guiding investigations toward community health priorities. "Universities and research centers can, by relying on an evidence-based evaluation system, become hubs of impactful and innovative knowledge production," he said.
The evaluation, conducted with the participation of deputies, directors, and experts in research and technology across the country, assessed universities in four main domains: Governance and Leadership, Knowledge Production and Translation, Impact and Output, and Technology Development. A total of 23 sub-domains and 107 specialized indicators were used to measure performance.
According to the final results, Shahid Beheshti, Tehran, and Tabriz Universities of Medical Sciences secured the top three positions nationally. SHMU’s strong performance confirms its growing prominence in the country’s research and technology landscape.
