Decoding the Brain: Investigating Neural Circuits for Health and Disease
Welcome to the Neuroscience Research Center (NRC) at Shahroud University of Medical Sciences (SHMU). Our center is dedicated to exploring the complexities of the central and peripheral nervous systems. By employing a multi-scale approach—from molecular mechanisms to systems-level circuit analysis—we aim to advance our understanding of normal brain function and the pathology underlying devastating neurological and psychiatric disorders.
Our Mission:
The NRC’s mission is to generate transformative knowledge about the structure, function, and development of the nervous system. We are committed to translating this fundamental understanding into novel diagnostic tools, therapeutic strategies, and improved clinical outcomes for patients suffering from neurological deficits.
Key Areas of Focus:
Our research portfolio is structured to cover a broad spectrum of contemporary neuroscience:
Molecular & Cellular Neurobiology: Investigating the function of key genes, proteins, and signaling cascades involved in neuronal excitability, synaptic plasticity, and neural network formation.
Systems Neuroscience & Cognition: Mapping functional neural circuits underlying complex behaviors, perception, memory, and decision-making, often utilizing in vivo electrophysiology and advanced imaging techniques.
Neurodegenerative Diseases: Focused research on the pathogenesis and potential treatments for major disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, and stroke recovery mechanisms.
Neuropsychiatry: Studying the biological basis of mood disorders, anxiety, and schizophrenia, integrating genetic, imaging, and clinical data to refine classification and treatment.
Opportunities for International Students & Collaborators:
The NRC welcomes researchers from around the globe to join our innovative and collaborative environment.
Advanced Methodologies: Engage with cutting-edge techniques in neuroscience, including in vivo imaging, advanced transcriptomics, and computational modeling of neural activity.
Clinical Integration: Direct access to patient cohorts and clinical collaborators for translational studies focusing on local and global neurological health challenges.
Collaborative Seminars: Participate in a vibrant scientific community through regular internal seminars, journal clubs, and international workshops designed to foster cross-disciplinary thinking.
The Neuroscience Research Center is where curiosity about the brain meets rigorous scientific investigation to forge pathways to neurological health.
