Admission Guidelines: Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program for International Applicants

These guidelines outline the mandatory requirements and procedures for international applicants seeking entry into the 7-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) program at the School of Medicine, Shahroud University of Medical Sciences (SUMS).

 

1. Eligibility Criteria:

Academic Qualification: Applicants must hold a valid High School Diploma (or equivalent secondary education certificate) recognized by the Ministry of Education of their home country.

Minimum GPA: A minimum cumulative GPA equivalent to 80% or higher in the final two years of secondary school is generally required. Specific country cutoffs may apply.

Language Proficiency: Proof of proficiency in English (e.g., IELTS/TOEFL scores) is highly recommended for clinical rotations, although the initial pre-clinical phase may accommodate varying levels of proficiency based on the admission cohort. Knowledge of basic Persian is beneficial for early clinical exposure.

Health Status: Applicants must be in excellent physical and mental health, confirmed by a medical examination report issued by an authorized physician.

 

2. Required Application Documents:

Official, notarized copies of the High School Diploma and Academic Transcript.

Certified English translation of all documents (if not originally in English).

Valid Passport Copy (bio-data page).

Recent Passport-Sized Photographs (x4).

Curriculum Vitae (CV) summarizing academic achievements and extra-curricular activities.

Statement of Purpose (SOP) detailing motivation for studying General Medicine at SUMS.

Letter(s) of Recommendation (LORs) from previous educators (optional but recommended).

 

3. Application Procedure:

Online Submission: Complete the online application form available via the SUMS International Office portal.

Document Upload: Upload scanned copies of all required documents.

Application Fee: Pay the non-refundable application fee as specified on the portal.

Review and Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a mandatory online interview with the Admissions Committee.

 

4. Enrollment and Visa:

Successful candidates will receive an official Letter of Acceptance (LOA) from SUMS.

The LOA is the primary document required by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Iran to process the student visa (Entry Visa for Study).
